THIS MONTH:  Our theme is “The Deep Blue Sea”.  We will learn about the ocean and sea life, as well as preservation and ecology of our beaches.  We will discuss water safety, and look at ways to use nature in art, sensory, and language activities.  Our vocabulary will include: waves, tide, gravitation, current, and shore.  We will have lots of opportunities for water play, both inside and out.  Please leave a swim suit and towel (labeled with your child’s name) here for us to use during the month.  Also, Miss Inna is back, Miss Pepper is on vacation, we have three more Summer Camp field trips, a pre-k graduation, and an end of summer picnic planned (see calendar of events for dates.)

DISCOVERY CENTER ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sunscreen:  Don’t forget to sunscreen your child before school.  We’ll do it in the afternoon.

Miss Inna:  Thank you for your best wishes for Inna’s recovery from breast cancer.  She is back in the classroom doing well.  The babies sure missed her! We are glad to have her back!

Center Closure: We are closed August 28-30 for our annual Teacher’s In-Service.  We will re-open on Sept. 3rd for the new school year.

Early Achievers: We are moving along in the process of ensuring high quality care to our families.  The variety of tools we’re using are enriching our programs and enabling our teachers to succeed.  We’ll keep you posted as to our progress as we continue. Please visit www.del.wa.gov for more info.

Summer Camp: Our campers are having a great summer!  They’re enjoying the field trips and each other!  Miss Pepper has been a great addition to our team, and will continue to teach school-agers throughout the school year.

Preschool/Pre-K:  Our preschoolers are busy!  They’ll be going on a field trip with the summer campers this month, playing in water, and doing sand and shell art.

Toddlers: These little guys are getting bigger every day!  It’s such a joy to see them grow and develop from the babies they were to the toddlers they’ve become.  New words and abilities are discovered as their independence blossoms.

Infants:  The babies are so adorable as they begin to develop and grow!  Their faces light up when they discover new things, and they help keep us all young! (Thanks to Miss Nadya for doing Inna’s shift while she was out!)

Susan G. Komen: I’ve logged over 300 miles in training walks in preparation for the 3-day, 60 mile event in September!  Hard to believe it’s almost here!  I still need your donations to help meet my $2300 goal, so please visit my personal page at http://www.the3day.org/site/TR/2013/SeattleEvent2013?px=5064183&pg=personal&fr_id=1820  Thank you for your support!
